6 days away!

We are 6 days away from moving into our new home!  We are so excited we can't even talk about anything else.  There are so many things that have to be done or purchased right away and I have many, many lists to try to keep these things straight.

As of right now, things have been pretty smooth with Ryan Homes and the process.  We are still waiting to hear from our loan officer on our final approval from underwriting.  Of course we have heard this two times already... that our loan was in final underwriting.  But I know this is how the game goes at this point.  The only issue right now is that we are waiting to hear the final amount that we will need for closing.  Our bank is an online one that we need to have a certified check sent to us, so we can't just get it done on the day of closing.  NVR is aware of this and say we will have the information in time.... but we wait.

Our walk through is in two days.  We haven't seen the finished house yet and are quite intrigued as to how it will really feel once we get in there.  Our project manager and everyone that has worked on the house has been fantastic.

In the process of building the house, we ran into two things that we chose for the house that weren't really explained in detail during the sales process, so I want to point them out to provide others the same misunderstanding.

First, we chose to only have the basement bathroom plumbing put in, but not finish the bathroom.  We did not realize this meant we would not even get a door into the bathroom.  So what I thought would be a somewhat easy project of putting in the sink, toilet and some lights, has now become a big project.  Have to cut a door in the wall... put up another wall to separate the bathroom from the utility closet.  Drywall everything and then put in the fixtures.

Second, in the second bathroom upstairs... we chose to only get one sink there.  We thought there would still be a countertop and storage all the way across the area with just a blank countertop where a second sink would normally be.  Instead we were given half a vanity and cabinets.  When I looked at the layout, I can see that now, but I didn't know at the time.  And we would have made a different choice if we had known.  I thought the price quoted to us for a second sink was high... but now I know the cost was for the mirror, lights, cabinet, sink and faucet!  Would have been worth it.  You can see what this looks like in the pictures below.

Overall, if that is all we have to complain about during the 3 month process of building a house from scratch... not bad!!!  Will let you know how the walk through goes!

Two weeks away!

We received notice that they are a day ahead of schedule!  This means we will have our walk through next Friday and our closing on October 1st.

We visited the house yesterday.  We hadn't been there in two weeks and we were so pleased to see it.  The floors are in!  The fixtures are all in!  The bathrooms are tiled and finished!  The only things missing are the appliances, the deck and the landscaping.  We even have a driveway and sidewalk already!!!

Very exciting!  These pics are from phone.  My camera died after the first few shots. Will put the others up this week.

It's a real house!!

Yes we have siding and the shutters... looks great, doesn't it? Inside they have painted and put up the trip.  Our cabinets are in as well.
